With over two decades immersed in K-12 education and countless training experiences as both a trainer and participant, I recently dedicated several weeks this summer to complete Griggs China’s online teacher induction program. This training turned out to be a rich, fulfilling learning journey that exceeded all my expectations. From its comprehensive curriculum and logical structure to engaging multimedia, reflective workbook prompts, and the warm, encouraging voice of the curriculum designers—every detail was thoughtfully crafted to support educators.

Comprehensive, Research-Driven Curriculum Built for Real Classrooms

The program follows a seamless, progressive learning framework. The opening two modules, Welcome to Griggs and Key Values & Learner Profile, lay the foundational educational mission and core philosophies of Griggs schools. Modules 3 through 7 walk educators through the full lesson design workflow and evidence-backed teaching strategies, including Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction, differentiated instruction, CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning), PBL (Project-Based Learning), and formative/summative assessment frameworks covered in Module 8. Module 9 then places heavy emphasis on school safety and student protection, outlining clear, actionable rules and protocols that every educator must uphold. The training wraps up with clear submission guidelines for reflective workbooks and mandatory signed paperwork. This final checkpoint ensures all core takeaways stick, embedding a student-centered, caring mindset deep within every incoming teacher.

Each module opens with a heartfelt introductory passage that bridges academic theory with frontline classroom realities, creating a safe, supportive virtual learning space.

Without a doubt, Rosenshine’s 10 Research-Based Principles of Instruction stood out as my most valuable takeaway. The program breaks down this framework into step-by-step classroom practices: opening lessons with quick reviews, delivering new content clearly, scaffolding student work from teacher modeling and guided practice to independent application, plus consistent weekly and monthly cumulative reviews. Every stage includes ready-to-use, age-appropriate activities for both teachers and students. As an educator, researcher, and school administrator, I’ve spent years testing and refining these exact instructional tactics. Finding them organized, validated, and packaged into a complete, usable framework felt transformative. To me, Rosenshine’s Principles represent the gold standard of effective teaching—the ultimate goal every educator strives to achieve. Most importantly, it assists teachers to close the gap between written curriculum plans and day-to-day classroom delivery in every detail.

Strong core instruction serves as the backbone of student mastery, and Griggs further elevates learning through intentional CLIL and PBL integration. At Griggs China campuses, where most students learn core subjects in English as non-native speakers, CLIL is embedded into every lesson. The official Griggs unit planning template provides clear scaffolding to design lessons with dual content and language objectives. I strongly encourage all teachers to leverage this template to balance academic knowledge and English growth—though it does take consistent practice to master fully.

Well-designed PBL unlocks students’ natural curiosity, critical thinking, and collaborative skills. Learning through projects sticks far longer than rote memorization. Best of all, PBL empowers students to become proactive problem-solvers and changemakers, both today in their leaning communities and in their future careers.

When it comes to assessment, the program thoroughly breaks down diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment purposes and corresponding tools. One key perspective I would like to highlight: education’s ultimate goal is nurturing lifelong learners, which hinges on “assessment as learning”. Students must learn to self-evaluate their progress and build personalized improvement strategies. That’s why teachers need to consistently share clear success criteria and grading rubrics with students, empowering them to self-direct their learning long after they leave the classroom.

Learning Without Boundaries: Griggs China’s Online Induction Training Review

Accessible, Inspiring Multimedia Design for All Trainee Teachers

What makes this training stand out beyond its academic rigor is its warm, human-centered presentation style. Opening videos featuring global Griggs leadership and step-by-step walkthroughs narrated by the curriculum team carry genuine passion and straightforward explanations. What impressed me most was the design team’s consideration for trainees with unstable internet access, both domestically and internationally. The curated Bilibili video clips were another fantastic touch that deepened my understanding of complex concepts. This level of care for teachers directly translates to more empathetic, student-focused instruction once educators return to their classrooms.

Reflective Workbooks: Turn Theory Into Immediate Classroom Action Plan

The guided reflection assignments in the training workbook push participants past passive memorization and prompt us to map every concept to real classroom scenarios. While these reflective tasks require thoughtful effort, they are incredibly practical—teachers can immediately apply newly learned strategies to align their instruction with Griggs’ student-first classroom standards.

Final Takeaways: A PBL-Style Immersive Experience for New Onboarding Teachers

All in all, this online induction training program delivers an immersive deep dive into Griggs’ core educational philosophies and evidence-based pedagogy. Grounded in Peter Drucker’s management frameworks, the program sets clear, measurable learning goals. Every module’s workbook task builds instructional agility and creative problem-solving, while each chapter itself models Rosenshine’s instructional principles in action.

Completing the full training solves a critical pain point for new hires: how to fully align with Griggs’ educational identity and grow into compassionate, impactful, inspiring educators before officially starting their roles. In fact, the entire training journey functions like a project-based learning experience for teachers themselves, with a lack of interaction and collaboration among peers due to constraints of time and space.

I firmly believe that the more hands-on learning methodologies teachers experience firsthand, the more naturally they can implement those same engaging practices with their own students. This immersive training reshapes educators’ mindsets and daily teaching habits in tangible, lasting ways—making this onboarding program truly impressive and productive.

I also learned from Griggs China’s Academic Director, Ms. Lisa Kerr, the chief designer of the program, that she maintains consistent communication with all new teachers throughout and after the online training, providing one-on-one support to resolve questions and address challenges. This mid-and-late August, the Griggs China Professional Development Conference will host open discussions centered on this induction program and extended educational topics. New hires, returning veteran teachers, academic researchers, and school leaders will gather to exchange insights, share expertise, and troubleshoot classroom challenges together. Through this collaborative exchange, the entire Griggs China team stands ready to support our partner schools in launching another successful academic year.
